Cup – London – George III era – End of around 1700 – Folk Art – Sculpted wood and statuary marble egg.
This English cup from the end of the 18th century is curious: in turned wood with a dark matt patina, it does not represent the glories of the reign of George III, emulator of the spendthrift French sovereigns, but rather the simplicity of ancient country objects, making it rightfully belong to the British Folk Art.
Yes, curious because it contains a real nest inside and a small egg in statuary white marble.
Some wear and tearing, but overall very good condition.
For collectors.
