Ancient sanguine male nude
Sanguine drawing – France – 1800s – Original frame.
Large drawing under glass with original carved and shaped wooden frame.
France, 1800s, frame with traces of old lacquering, sanguine drawing depicting a posing male nude.
But what is sanguine? It is a red ocher used to create drawing crayons, particularly popular in the Renaissance and Baroque ages. The color, similar to blood, is due to the material it is made of, i.e. hematite, an iron mineral.
Wear, patina on the frame, small spots on the drawing, but in very good overall condition.
For collectors.
Measures are with frame.
