Ancient France theater silhouette
NOT AVAILABLE
Silhouette - France - Louis XIV Period - End of 1600 - Painted metal.
Silhouette (shape in English) with a floral motif found in France and entirely in metal painted with a fine line in gold.
Louis XIV Period, late 1600s, good size.
These silhouettes had the purpose of embellishing and enriching the sides of the proscenium in the theatre: in the Baroque Period this art rises to a true social phenomenon. It becomes fashionable for all royals to have a stage to cheer bored courtiers, dazzling them with rich and pompous costumes and scenery. And, as always, such a desire for lightness also leads to the birth of a different Theater, one of denunciation, promoter of a battle of social ideas (Molière above all).
Really excellent overall condition, old restoration on the backing, wear and patina, but no breaks.
For collectors.
