Chest - "A Bambocci" - Genoa - Louis XIV Period - Mid 1600s - Carved solid walnut.
Genoese chest from the mid-1600s, Louis XIV Period.
Solid walnut carved and decorated in patina, in full “A Bambocci” style.
The term "a bambocci" originates from the series of superimposed figures that adorn pillars, aedicules and tympanums, enlivened by sculpted busts, sometimes even aligned along the belt bands of the undertop or to center the panels of the drawers, sometimes taking over from the ordinary handles.
It is a type that finds ample documentary evidence in inventories drawn up starting from the mid-16th Century and then known notably until the late 17th Century.
The interior needs to be restored, included in the price, but the furniture has not been modified and still has its original patina, burns on the top which will be accompanied by polishing.
High antiques.
