Signal lamp - Newcastle, England - Joseph Crowtner - 1900 - Copper, metal and red glass.
English nautical lamp, signaling for the bow way: these lamps were lit with oil or petrol and the glass was either red (left) or green (starboard). In short, they indicated the maneuver to the other boats.
Ours has red signaling glass (perfect) and a rear hook to be placed outside.
In patinated copper and metal, angular, it also has an upper handle to be carried.
The writing “Joseph Crowtner, Newcastle, Port” indicates the manufacturer (J. Crowtner) the location and model (Port).
Big size, patina, wear and tear, but which only tell how many journeys this lamp has had to face!
