"Lucerna" Lamp – Rome – 1800s – Worked gilded bronze.
Ancient Roman "lucerna" (lamp) from the 19th Century, all in gilded and worked bronze.
"Lucerne"were pocket lamps: before the advent of electricity, you won't believe it, there were either candles or lights that were transported from one room to another with wicks soaked in oil or petroleum and then lit. Here are the "lucerne".
The antiquity that we propose has a particular, appetizing peculiarity: the owl of Minerva worked in the upper part is a symbol of wisdom, an iconography commonly attributed to the Illuminati and to Freemasonry for novices who, in fact, once they rose in rank and therefore became the "wiser" ones were also called "Minervali".
Wear, patina, oxidation in some places, but no breaks, excellent overall condition.
For collectors.
