Madonna Statue – Genoa – Baroque Period – Late 1600s, early 1700s – Papier maché, trimmings, lacquered wood, terracotta, glass paste.
Large Genoese statue from the Baroque Era, around the end of the 1600s.
All in papier maché (painted papier-mâché) with feet, hands and face in terracotta, as tradition requires. Glass paste eyes. Real embroidered trimmings applied on the veil.
Note the dynamism of the fanè and patina red drapery and the sculptural marvel of the cloud over which the Madonna flies.
Old repairs, patina of the lacquer, wood wear, one hand restored in the past, but for being over 300 years old, really excellent overall condition.
For the most avid collectors.
