Large plaster bust, German, circa early 1900s.
It depicts Athena Lemnia: known as “The Beautiful” she was one of the three statues present in the Acropolis of Athens in honor of the Goddess of wisdom, hence the name. The sculptor was Phidias (active in the 5th century BC) who considered this work his masterpiece and even signed the statue with his own name.
Wear, patina, small lacks, but really excellent overall condition.
