Figure da presepe liguri “Macachi” e “Donnine”
“Macachi e Donnine da presepe” – Serie di figurine da presepe tipiche liguri – Terracotta dipinta a mano.
Macaques are typical figurines of the Ligurian nativity scene (conceived in Albisola, but they are soon characterized as an internationally recognized local heritage). Given the naive and joyful, almost childish character of the technique and the facial expressions absorbed in a world that no longer exists, they have always been called "macaques", in Ligurian "tontoloni".
About four centuries ago, the "figurinaie" (creators of these small works, generally 9 to 15 cm tall), wives and mothers of workers in the furnaces, invented this tradition whose boom occurred in the early 1900s, until the outbreak of the First World War .
Rattopennugo proposes a re-edition of all the typical figurines of the Ligurian nativity scene: the gelindo, the wanderer, the little man who makes the nativity scene, the woman with the focaccia, the shepherd with the ciocie, the wet nurse and so on. Nothing is invented by our Master Craftsman and the technique is the same as always: hand-painted terracotta, proportions, subjects, colors exactly as tradition commands.
Every year, a "novelty" is proposed: the re-edition of a subject chosen after a careful study and deepening of the tradition.
