Pair of small antique witch mirrors
Pair of witch mirrors - Paris - Napoleon III Period - Gilded and lacquered wood - Original mirror plate.
Pair of small French mirrors, round with red lacquered frame and gold profile.
Napoleon III era, around the end of 1800 with original convex plate which defines them as "witch mirrors". But why are they called that? Let's make it short: the witches (evil spirits), seeing their reflections in the distorting mirror, got scared and ran away, thus not tormenting the family of that house.
Here on the site you see other witch mirrors that come from the same collection that Rattopennugo has the pleasure of emptying.
Curiosity among curiosities: note the hanger depicting an original gilded bronze putto and the ancient hand-painted paper affixed to the back.
The size is for a single mirror, the price is for the two, not sold individually.
Wear and patina, a more damaged and less reflective mirror, but no breaks.
