Ancient French Cameos
Pair of cameos – France – Napoleon III era – 1859 – Cameo in pyrographed leather and gutta-percha – Mahogany frame.
Unusual cameos on pyrographed leather (designs created by fire) and gutta-percha (a plant material in use since the 19th century, first in the dental field and then for decoration).
The roundels depict in profile respectively Charles Louis Napoleon Bonaparte (nephew of the more famous namesake) and his wife Eugenia de Montijo.
1859, you won't believe it, but it was the Napoleon III Era!
Beautiful patina on the mahogany frame, losses, wear and tear which are taken into account in the estimate.
Divisible pair, the price listed is for 1 cameo only.
